In September 1969, community activists from the Scotland, Cabin John and Glen Echo communities joined forces with volunteers from River Road Unitarian Church to open a child care center in 4 classrooms at the church. Our preschool program is still at home there, with our schoolage program nearby at Woodacres Elementary School.
Preschool program at River Road:
- For children ages 2 to 4 years
- Hours: 7:15 AM to 6:15 PM
- Part-day options available, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Two-year-olds accepted prior to toilet training
- Breakfast, lunch, AM and PM snacks provided
Creative Enrichment at River Road:
- For children ages older-4 to 5 years who miss the MCPS kindergarten cut-off date
- Hours: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Before and after care available, 7:15 AM to 9:00 AM and/or 3:00 PM to 6:15 PM
- Lunch provided
School age before & after school programs at Woodacres:
- For children ages 5 to 12 years
- Hours: 7:15 AM to 8:45 AM and/or 3:00 PM to 6:15 PM
- Breakfast and PM snacks provided
Summer Adventures at Woodacres:
- Thinking about summer camps? Think Summer Adventures instead! We offer an enriching summer that keeps your child's body and mind active: 10 exciting Theme Weeks, our "Summer Reading Rocks" program, activity choices in addition to our themes, "low key" time for you child plus field trips, swimming, sports and hands-on discovery.

Meet the Director--Phyllis Osborn
Phyllis began her career with MCCA as a substitute teacher in 2005. She worked as a Senior Staff Teacher at MCCA Park Street until 2008 when she was promoted to the Director of MCCA River Road. Phyllis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business
Management from the University of Phoenix and she had has her Child Development Associate. Phyllis was raised in North Florida. She has been married since 1994 and has two children. Phyllis enjoys traveling,reading, and meeting new people.
Meet the Site Director--Erin Rodrigues
Erin has been working for MCCA since 2003, and has happily been the site director for MCCA Woodacres Clubhouse in Bethesda since 2005. She has many years of experience working with both preschool and school age children in a variety of settings. Erin has a BA in English from George Mason University and has taken both the 90 Hour Development and Curriculum Course and the 45 Hour School Age Development and Curriculum Course. She is also a trainer for MCCA where she teaches courses and workshops related to child care. Erin has been married since May of 2006 and lives in Silver Spring with her husband, one dog and two cats. In what little free time she has, Erin enjoys traveling, reading biographies, cooking, and wishing that she had more free time.
